Can-Do-Ability: Answers and Solutions from my personal experiences of living with a disability

By being a person with a disability I give others joy and purpose

22 Jul 2013I came across this blog http://severedisabilitykid.blogspot.com.au/2011/01/why-inspirational-stories-bug-me.html where a father made the comment that we only hear/read stories about people with disabilities that have achieved something.

The father continued that there is never a story written about the love a child with a disability gives their family and the love a carer/parent gives to the child.

Is it enough to just love? Does that make you successful? As a disabled person? As a parent?

I think so. To be able to ‘achieve' is a way of ticking off a box and helping the disabled person and those around them feel accomplished.

To say I can hold down a job is great but smiling, and having to be looked after is great also. A person with a disability can enrich people's lives by just being who they are!
