Transition To Work End Of Year Celebrations
10 Dec 2010:
Yesterday I helped celebrate the end of year Christmas party and 2010 graduation of some of the NOVA Employment Transition To Work Trainees.
Transition To Work, is a traineeship that is offered to year 12 school-leavers who have a disability.
They attend a program at a NOVA Employment office in their area 3 days a week, where they learn job skills, life skills and social skills to prepare them for entering the workforce.
The traineeship runs for two years, during this time, 1 day a week work experience is included, to give them some ideas of what they might be interested in doing once they complete their traineeship.
Once the two years is up, they are then transferred into the care of an Employment Consultant who will look for an open employment job in the area of work that they are most interested in. They will then be supported by NOVA Employment for the rest of their working career.
We celebrated Christmas and the end of some of the Campbelltown, St Marys, Penrith, Caringbah, Hurstville and Katoomba trainee's two year milestone with some bowling and laser tag. They all had a great day, as is documented below in some photo's that I took, and it was a good chance for all of the trainees from offices around Sydney to get together, form new friendships, strengthen old friendships and socialise with each other.
