The Ferry Trip
4 Mar 2014:
Did you know that if you want to travel on the ferry they take you up onto the ferry in an electric wheelchair due to OH&S requirements and so as not to strain their backs with the big fat people.
I found this concept rather amusing as I had to get out of my chair and into their electric wheelchair to get on the ferry. The guy who took me up was laughing as I am a 42kg lightweight.
Getting off the ferry and the whole return trip my husband just pushed me on and off the ferry as the electric wheelchair was to excessive.
For those people who are permanently in wheelchairs would find it really hard to transfer to and from the electric wheelchair and find it painful to transfer just to get on the ferry.
The only other alternative is to find a machine that can be attached to each wheelchair to put them on and off the ferry.
They are also using motorised isle chairs to get people on and off the plane.
It's really sad that people's excessive weight has come to this – the need of motorised wheelchairs to transport people onto ferries and planes.
