Sons and Mothers
2 Nov 2014:
At the end of September I was privileged enough to see a theatre performance at Bathurst Memorial Entertainment Centre called Sons & Mothers that was performed by Performing Lines.
Sons & Mothers has culminated in three years of work, several workshops and rehearsals.
The artistic director, Alirio Zavarce, facilitated the creation and craft of each of the six sons who tell their stories about their mums through dance, drawing, singing. They share the highs and lows through these love stories to their mums and how they saw the world with a disability. They also share how they were discriminated against and how their mums helped them walk through it.
After the performance, I got to meet each of the actors and their energy and excitement was infectious.
Alirio Zavarce let each performer speak for themselves and his awareness of disabilities and his supporting role was empowering and inspiring.
