Inquiry investigates Sterlisations of Disabled Youth
8 Apr 2013:
An inquiry investigating the sterilisation of disabled women makes me feel sick!
As the following story at:http://www.abc.net.au/worldtoday/content/2013/s3712708.htm mentions, there are parents out there who take it into their own hands and take their daughters overseas, Thailand and New Zealand, to have hysterectomies when the courts decline their right to do so.
For a young women of 19 or 20 to be told that she can't have children because she has had a hysterectomy is awful and then for her to think back and remember that she was told she was having her tonsils taken out is a massive betrayal of your parents.
This is a very sad story that forgets to look at this girl as a person with needs, longings and desires in life. Instead a mechanical decision was made that she would be incapable of being taught morals, how to take contraception or how to care for a family if given the choice.
