Holidays
25 Jul 2012:
I don't know how many times I have thought about going on a holiday and after doing some research have decided not to go as I have not found any wheelchair accessible accommodation, the accommodation price has been over the top or the one and only place that has wheelchair accessible accommodation is booked out.
I probably have a few places I like to go on a regular basis as I know I can manage my stay in the accommodation. The place is clean and my wheelchair fits and I can have a nice stay. The places around the accommodation are also easy to access and the busses are also great.
There have even been a few times I have gone to a place that advertises that it is wheelchair accessible accommodation only to find that my wheelchair does not fit in the bathroom and you need to have mega muscles to get their doors open.
I have also noted that a lot of the wheelchair accessible accommodation is in the high price range of the accommodation. Not only are we are we given a limited amount of places we can stay, we are then charged at a high price to stay there because we are super rich and can afford it – not!
Next week I am going on my annual holiday, this time to Perth, Western Australia. We are staying at a place I have been to before and I know the environment and the busses are mostly wheelchair accessible and comfortable.
A colleague will be uploading my blogs next week on Tuesday and Wednesday so you won't miss out on your weekly fix of ‘Jo Blogs'. I'll let you know how the holiday was when I get back.
