England and Pakistan proved disabled teams are an inspiration to all
18 Dec 2012:
At the moment it is cricket season here in Australia so I looked for a story that related to cricket and disabilities. I found a story that is hopeful for those aspiring cricketers who have a disability.
It looks like there is going to be a framework put together to bring disability cricketers under the banner of the sport's governing body.
It would be a major boost to the disability cricketers that have shown they deserve the recognition to play in a major international series.
All the disability cricketers of Pakistan and England have faced great difficulties in reaching this stage and official recognition would allow them to follow their dreams of playing at the international stage, showing their potential, creating awareness, and entertaining fans. Their success will be an inspiration for all.
There was a major international series played in Pakistan between England and Pakistan, which was run by the Global Cricket Academy that showed how exciting, inspiring and humbling these players were.
It was a coming-out party for disability cricket. If their disabilities were not so obvious, it would have been impossible to differentiate between them and a quality, able-bodied international team.
Their disability was not a hindrance as the cricketers with one leg or arm bowled quick and spin, stroked the ball with grace and took stunning catches.
Perhaps in the near future we will see cricket being played at the Paralympics.
