Disabled TV Characters
4 Nov 2014:
According to a TV analysis, there are more characters playing ongoing disability roles on TV this year. Although this is good news, not all the actors have a disability.
I know that at the end of the day, the Glee actor, Kevin McHale, who plays the role of. Artie, who is in a wheelchair, gets up and walks home.
Many actors who play ‘Autistic' roles, are not Autistic.
It is only roles, with characters who have Down Syndrome, that cannot be made up actually play these roles.
Michael J Fox, plays the role of, Louis Canning, on The Good Wife that does not focus on his disability, but rather sees him as ‘just' a lawyer.
Although it is good to have characters who have a disability on TV, what would be better would be if those characters were played by ‘real' disabled actors.
Other than that, actors with disabilities, playing the role that did not focus on their disability, would be great also.
