Albania MOVE

15 Apr 2014: Did you know that when you become disabled through an accident in Albania, there is no Rehab to go to?

The people in Albania who become disabled have a very bleak future where there families have to figure out how to look after them and they all have to do the best they can. These disabled people are very isolated and most of the time don't know that there is anybody else in Albania with the same issues and disabilities.

In October last year Active Disabled People (ADP), Albania, organised a week of Disabled Basketball to show that being part of physical activities and sports makes the difference from surviving to ‘living'!

It was not easy for ADP as they had many barriers to overcome – meetings with government representatives being upstairs, etc.

The week called ‘MOVE' was televised and helped change the community's perspective about what people can do with a disability.

Not all countries are disability aware, however, we need to celebrate when countries move forward in leaps and bounds in this area!
